Battle is the site of the most famous battle in English history, the Battle of Hastings, fought between Harold the Saxon King and William the Conqueror in 1066.

Located in East Sussex in the South East England, the area includes the popular travel destinations of Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings all located along the coast. The town itself has a range of accommodation choices ranging from local B&Bs to self-catering apartments, whilst wider East Sussex has everything from coastal hotels to rural inland retreats.

While staying in Battle, take the opportunity to explore William the Conqueror’s famous abbey and stand on the very spot where King Harold is believed to have died. A day out for the whole family, with the Abbeys gardens perfect for children to explore and play in.

Golf lovers will also enjoy Battle for the number of courses to choose from, some of which offer golf lessons, perfect for spending a day outdoors.

Hastings

Hastings, not far from Battle, is also located in East Sussex and also famously has links to 1066. Although it was not the actual location of the epic battle, its legacy is still clearly evident throughout the town. Do take the opportunity to visit William the Conqueror’s first English Castle.

Alternatively use Battle as your base and explore the whole of East Sussex, a perfect location for a day trip to Brighton.

Brighton

Brighton has many popular tourist attractions making it a real treasure trove of things to do, from its Brighton Wheel and Brighton Pier to a visit to the seaside, this town offers something for everyone. The pier itself has a collection of shops along its length. A walk to the pier’s end will reward you with fantastic views over Brighton beach.

Brighton Museum and Art Gallery is located in the heart of the city’s cultural quarter. The museum brings together a wide range of collections with exhibits depicting the story of Brighton and the wider world.

The Royal Pavilion is extraordinary don’t miss it if you are planning on visiting Brighton while in East Sussex. It’s something you would not expect to find in a city centre it has atmospheric and stunning interiors coupled with beautiful gardens to enjoy a picnic in, if the weather permits.

Beachy Head near Eastbourne will let you get as close to the English Channel as you can be without touching it, a lovely tranquil place to visit.
