Astoria Riverwalk Inn

Astoria Riverwalk Inn

8/10 Good
"Great location if you plan to fish. Breakfast is too late for most guided trips, so you'll have to do something else for breakfast if you're fishing. Hotel is dated and areas by the water such as decks, need a lot of repairs, but comfortable enough. Thank goodness there was a box fan in the room, otherwise it would have been too stuffy. Overall, for the price it was fine."

The Herondale Hotel

The Herondale Hotel

8/10 Good
"The hotel was beautiful and the stay was overall good. There was a bit of confusion with the staff at first - a housekeeper tried to check me in, which led to some keys not working and I had to redo the check-in process. This also led to me not getting all the info about the amenities, like the hot tub closed an hour earlier than I had read online. I also asked for a robe after seeing other guests have them, and I was told no, that was only for the more expensive rooms. That made me feel like I was not as welcome. An odd decision by the staff to draw the line at a robe. The tv portal also didn’t work while I was there, and the wifi was spotty. The website is written by AI, which is frustrating. It implies that the riverwalk is accessible from the property, “directly behind”. While that is technically true, it’s a pretty steep 20 minute walk to the beginning of the trail, through some backroads with no sidewalks along the highway. It also implies that there’s “breakfast baskets and farm-to-table small plates” - but one look at the menu shows the only breakfast option is a chia seed pudding. I didn’t get eyes on the small plates, so I can’t speak to the quality, but given the price, I would expect the portions to be large ($14 for veggies with olive oil and salt, for example). I hope they have someone actually write helpful information on the website in the future. I felt a little duped by the ai descriptions."
