Arganda del Rey is a town in the Madrid region. It’s home to a wide range of activities and a host of attractions that make it well worth a visit.

Take advantage of the many cheap trips to Arganda del Rey you’ll find on our website to visit this city, just outside Madrid. Located to the east of Madrid, on the way to the Mediterranean, this town became an important centre in the Middle Ages, though the exponential population growth was due mainly to the massive migration that took place from the neighbouring towns because of the Black Death in the 14th century.

When you’re planning your trip to Arganda del Rey, remember that there are many attractions in the town centre, such as the Town Hall, Plaza de la Constitución and Calle San Juan. Close to the city, you’ll also find the ruins of the hermitage of Valtierra, a Mudéjar-style shrine built in the 13th century, and the hermitage of Vilches, a Baroque-style shrine from the 17th century.

And of course, you won't want to miss the building that gave the town part of its name. The King’s home, La Casa del Rey, was home to King Felipe III. Nowadays, it’s used to store the municipal archives. The highlight of architecture in Arganda del Rey is undoubtedly Iglesia de San Juan, though. This Herrerian-style church was completed in 1580, and offers a Latin cross floorplan with three naves. The bell tower, which wasn’t built until 1714, gives the church an impressive look that can be appreciated from the neighbouring streets.

Your package deal to Arganda del Rey wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the unique Telégrafo, an optical telegraphy tower that was built to connect the main towns in Spain in the 1800s, but which was eventually abandoned. The tower in Arganda is the only one left today, making it a unique example of this type of technology.

Come visit Arganda and enjoy its heritage, cuisine and people. You won’t regret it!
