"This is a pleasant hotel located right in the centre of Alnwick, within easy walking distance of the shops, market, castle, and gardens. The building is a former coaching inn and, considering its age, is in very good condition.
We stayed for four nights on a bed‑and‑breakfast basis in an executive double room. Parking is convenient and located at the rear of the hotel. Check‑in was quick and straightforward.
Our room was spacious and airy, with a comfortable king‑size bed. The bathroom was modern and well maintained. The room was quiet, and we both slept well throughout our stay.
Breakfast was acceptable, although we would have preferred freshly cooked hot food rather than the buffet‑style option provided. We ate dinner in the hotel once; the food was fine, but there are better dining options available locally in the town.
Overall, the staff were friendly, pleasant, and helpful, and our stay was comfortable."
"Easily the best accommodation of a four-day stay in Northumberland. Everything in the Whittling House makes your trip a little bit better, from lovely staff to beautiful decor, homemade shortbread for the rooms to the comfy armchairs in the bar. Definitely worth the more premium price!"
"Location is great with lots of free parking options nearby including EV chargers.
The room and bathroom were spacious, clean and warm. On the downside was the fact that our room was just above the pub and on Saturday night was very loud until midnight and we couldn’t sleep. So make sure to ask for a room on higher floor.
Regarding the breakfast one day we had the eggs Benedict which were not good as the hollandaise sauce was too watery, scrambled and bland.
The 2nd day we had the English breakfast which was very good and I would definitely recommend it.
The breakfast continental buffet could have more fruit options (only apple and oranges were available) and should be refilled regularly which wasn’t the case."
"This was an excellent place to stay! The pub was so convenient, all staff were awesome. I wish the was a mini fridge but maybe that is a US thing? My only complaint is that this random thing happened when we went back to our room after the breakfast and before we checked out around 10. The hallway had this overwhelming smell of poop or sewage. It even was in our room. We opened the windows and we sprayed my dry shampoo in the air so we wouldn’t gag. We had to go back up 30 min later and it was gone. The curtains do not close all the way so sunlight was in my eyes at 7:45 am as well. But,it was quiet and clean."
"Parking was safe and secure. Room was very clean.
The breakfasts were delicious. I can't say enough about the staff, they were brilliant, really friendly and very helpful ."
"Was only there for 1 night and I was given room 1 looking onto main fenkle street where my scooter was it was great bed was comfy room clean bathroom was good "
"The reception team were very welcoming, and took us to the room filling us in with what we needed to know. Great breakfast, a delightful breakfast team with an excellent selection, and fresh local produce.
Hotel parking was easy, location for the castle and town good.
Would we go back, no question about it, afternoon tea, evening meal overnight stay, we will be back"
"Checked-in at the bar where staff were all helpful and welcoming. The room (and bed) was very comfortable with good blackout blinds. Central location so very convenient for exploring Alnwick. We’ll stay here again. "
