"Property was larger than expected. It was clean and well furnished and provided a lovely break. Its in a very remote location, which is what we were looking for. Very dog friendly. some noise from the property upstairs but wasn't too intrusive."

The owner did his best to accommodate our needs during our short stay, and is still finding his feet a little having only recently taken on the business. "An oasis when walking the Hadrian way. Rather over-priced but the standard of food and comfort make it palatable. What was really noticeable was the friendliness of the staff. From the girls who served us dinner to the lady on breakfast, they had a smile on their face and that makes all the difference. "

"Definitely worth a visit. We only stayed for one night but we will be back. Staff all unbelievably good. Food exceptional. Very quiet. Really good nights sleep. Highly recommend this hotel. We also did the free history tour of the castle. Do not miss this as it includes a visit to the roof to take in the views."

"A lovely traditional building, beautifully decorated and good sized rooms. It's cuisine, not average grub. Challenges me to try something different. Friendly, helpful staff. An affordable treat. Fabulous location close to the Abbey with disc parking across the road and a large free car park 5 minutes walk away by the Wentworth Centre. Second visit. If they start to accept well behaved dogs I'll be back again. "

"Right from the friendly welcome by Tom, my stay was fantastic. I was travelling myself with 2 young children for a family funeral in the area. All the staff were friendly and very good with the children. They were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. We enjoyed a meal in the evening. Good choice for adults and children. We also all enjoyed the buffet breakfast too. "
