Beautifully styled rooms, but you can tell the developer wanted a hotel in their portfolio, but likely has no hotel experience. The hotel website is an over-sell on the reality of the experience. It’s not a bad hotel, but work is needed to live up to its promises. The soundproofing is not great: exposed concrete ceilings = noise travelling from above. It’s baffling that they didn’t build an entrance to the hotel: car park entrance = not the best first impression. The promise of a pool bar was not the experience offered - in fact, we were made to feel like an inconvenience every time we wanted to spend money buying drinks.

We stayed at essence over the new year period. It was not unusual for temperatures to exceed 30 degrees. In spite of this, every time we opened a door to access the verandah, or left the apartment for more than 20 minutes the air conditioning in the room automatically turned off. We made the staff aware of this but they said it was how the system was set up and could not be changed. When returning to the room from visiting the beach it was unbearably hot and took a considerable amount of time to cool down especially with no fans in the apartment to assist with air flow. The pools were very small for the number of visitors, much smaller than you would expect for the price and the pictures on the website. It was not pleasant to swim with people practically on top of each other. Although there was a kitchen, there was only the bare minimum of kitchen equipment. An oven but no baking trays etc to use, one small saucepan and a small frypan. It made the kitchen more or less unusually other than the microwave and kettle. There was a large fridge but it was completely stacked with minibar items leaving very little room for us to store our own food. The only thing the staff were attentive with was asking us everyday if the minibar needed restocking! There was also no vacuum or broom in the apartment, even when we asked for one, so there was often quite a lot of sand on the floor from returning from the beach. The view was lovely but there are no ocean views from this accommodation

This is a top quality property, with quality finishings, beautiful attention to detail, very friendly staff (all greeting you with a warm smile), and is in the perfect location - quiet, yet in the heart of everything Peregian has to offer!
