What you can expect

Begin your journey with a guided walk through a lush Spice Farm, locally known as a shamba. As you step into the farm, be welcomed by a kaleidoscope of scents and colors. Zanzibar is famously referred to as the “Spice Island” because of its centuries-old spice trade, and here you will discover the source of that legacy.

Local farmers and guides will walk you through rows of clove trees, cinnamon bark, nutmeg, vanilla vines, cardamom, turmeric, and more. You’ll be encouraged to smell, taste, and even try your hand at harvesting these spices in their raw form. Learn how each spice is grown, its health benefits, and how they are used in both local Swahili cooking and traditional healing practices.

This experience is both sensory and educational from feeling the oily leaves of clove trees to crushing fresh lemongrass in your fingers, each moment brings you closer to the cultural and agricultural richness of Zanzibar. After the tour, enjoy a fresh tropical fruit tasting session, along with a cup of spice-infused tea.

Next, head to the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre, one of Africa’s largest enclosed butterfly sanctuaries. Located near Jozani Forest, this magical environment is home to dozens of native butterfly species, all fluttering freely within a lush tropical garden enclosed by netting.

At the sanctuary, local conservationists will guide you through the life cycle of butterflies—from egg to caterpillar, to chrysalis, and finally to the breathtaking winged creature. Witness live demonstrations and even get the chance to release a newly hatched butterfly into the garden.

The butterfly sanctuary is not only visually stunning but also plays a critical role in community development and environmental education. It supports local farmers who are trained to rear butterflies sustainably, providing them with income while preserving natural biodiversity. This stop is ideal for photographers, families, and anyone curious about the fragile beauty of these creatures and the power of conservation.
Finally finish, Swimming with Sea turtle getting unforgettable experience with Turtle at Salam Cave.
