What you can expect
Step into a serene wooden house surrounded by rice fields and discover the soul of Javanese culture through Gamelan.
This intimate 2.5-hour workshop is more than a music class — it is a cultural and philosophical journey. Guided by Pak Pardiman, a gentle and deeply knowledgeable Gamelan master, you will explore not only how to play the instruments, but why Gamelan holds such an important place in Javanese royal and spiritual traditions.
You’ll be introduced to the different instruments and rotate between them, learning to play 3–4 traditional pieces together as a group. No musical experience is needed — only a sense of rhythm and curiosity.
Unlike Western orchestras, Gamelan has no conductor. The music flows from the heart. It is a living conversation between players, creating harmony through awareness and feeling. Through gentle guidance and thoughtful storytelling, you will gain a deeper understanding of how Gamelan connects to royal courts, spirituality, and everyday Javanese life.
Between playing, you’ll share tea and thoughtful discussions about Javanese philosophy, tradition, and the deeper meaning of music in everyday life. Many guests describe this experience as meditative, insightful, and one of the most meaningful afternoons in Java.
This private session allows space for personal connection, reflection, and deeper learning — making it ideal for travelers seeking something intimate and culturally rich.
