What you can expect

Discover Indonesia through coffee and chocolate in a fully guided, hands-on experience led by a local barista at Toko Kopi Kulon, a local coffee house in Bantul, just outside Yogyakarta.

Your local barista stays with you throughout the experience as your guide, coffee expert, and host. Explore Indonesia's diverse coffee culture through beans from 50+ regions, including Gayo, Java, Toraja, Ijen, and Temanggung, and discover all four coffee species found in Indonesia: Arabica, Robusta, Liberica, and the rare Excelsa.

One of the highlights is Wild Sumatran Luwak Coffee. Learn about the story behind this famous Indonesian coffee and discover what makes it different from other Indonesian origins.

Open coffee jars together with your guide, smell the aromas, taste raw beans, and explore different processing methods including honey, full-wash, wine, and natural process. You'll also discover raw cacao beans and taste more than five single-origin Indonesian chocolates.

Then put your senses to the test in a barista-led cupping challenge. Taste five coffees selected from the origins you explored and try to identify their different characteristics, from fruity and floral to earthy, nutty, and chocolatey. When traveling with others, compete for the sharpest palate and a special prize judged by your barista.

After the tasting, make your own V60 pour-over coffee with step-by-step guidance from your local barista. Learn how grinding, pouring, and brewing affect the final cup. Prefer chocolate? You can prepare a traditional-style hot chocolate instead.

Along the way, hear stories about Indonesia's coffee culture, from the history of Java Coffee during the Dutch East Indies era to today's local “ngopi” culture and modern café scene.

Your experience is also captured with photos and short videos, sent to you free of charge after the session.

Before leaving, choose two 50g portions of Indonesian coffee or chocolate as your souvenir.

With hotel pickup and drop-off included, this is more than a coffee tasting. It's a personal journey through Indonesia's coffee and chocolate culture, guided from bean to cup by a local barista.
