This route showcases the most stunning scenery in China: pure salt lakes, towering snow-capped mountains, endless Gobi Desert, and magnificent Danxia landforms. Travel between nature and history, and experience unique culture and breathtaking views.
Day 1: Xining - Qinghai Lake - Chaka Salt Lake
Depart from Xining in the morning and head to Qinghai Lake. Visit the Erlangjian Scenic Area and enjoy the stunning views of the lake. In the afternoon, continue to Chaka Salt Lake and experience the “Sky Mirror” effect.
Day 2: Chaka - Golmud - Qarhan Salt Lake
After breakfast, drive to Golmud, passing through the Gobi Desert and grasslands. Visit Qarhan Salt Lake, known as the “Salt Bridge,” and explore this world-class natural wonder.
Day 3: Golmud - Dunhuang
Travel west to Dunhuang, the pearl of the Silk Road. Visit the Dunhuang Art Academy and try your hand at clay painting under the guidance of a professional instructor. In the evening, stroll through the bustling Dunhuang Shazhou Night Market.
Day 4: Dunhuang - Mogao Grottoes - Mingsha Mountain
Visit the Mogao Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and admire the ancient murals and sculptures. In the afternoon, head to Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Area to witness the unique “sand and spring coexistence” phenomenon.
Day 5: Dunhuang - Jiayuguan - Zhangye
Depart from Dunhuang and travel to Jiayuguan Pass, the first pass at the west end of the Great Wall of China. Climb the fortress and feel the grandeur of this ancient military stronghold. In the afternoon, visit the Zhangye Colorful Danxia Scenic Area and marvel at the vibrant, layered rock formations.
Day 6: Zhangye - Qilian Grassland - Xining
After breakfast, drive through the vast and beautiful Qilian Grassland, enjoying the stunning scenery of grasslands, mountains, and rivers. Return to Xining and end your journey.
