What you can expect

  • [Practical Information, Location and Access]
The Xi'an Bell Tower, built in 1384 during the Ming Dynasty and moved to its current location in 1582, is the largest and best-preserved bell tower in China, marking the exact geometric center of the ancient walled capital next to the nearby Drum Tower (“Bell mornings and drum evenings”).

Access and Recommended Metro: To avoid street traffic, take Metro Line 2 to Zhonglou Station (钟楼站), Exit C, which connects directly to the large outdoor square via an underground pedestrian walkway.

[Ming Architecture and Landmarks of the Site]
Standing 36 meters tall, the structure is distinguished by its colossal brick and stone base and an upper wooden pavilion with three eaves featuring green tiles and a gilded finial, built entirely using traditional carpentry joinery techniques without metal nails.

City Vantage Point: From the upper outdoor terrace, you'll enjoy an unparalleled view of the four main avenues (North, South, East, and West) radiating out from the historic center, providing an extraordinary backdrop for photos both during the day and at sunset.

Cultural Exhibits: Inside, you will find a replica of the iconic Tang Dynasty Jingyun Bell, as well as the opportunity to witness occasional performances of traditional palace bell music.

[Visiting Tips and Suggested Route (1 to 1.5 Hours)]

Best Time: Visiting between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM allows you to admire the landmark in the natural light of sunset and its stunning golden evening illumination. (Safety note: Access to the upper floor is via a wooden spiral staircase that can be narrow.)

Alternative Photo Tip: If you prefer an outdoor panoramic shot without going up the tower, the vantage point on the 5th floor of Kaiyuan Mall is the city's most famous free spot.

    [Underground Instructions and Online Support]
Access to the Bell Tower is through a maze of underground passageways that often disorient foreign visitors. To help with this, we will send you a document with clear visual instructions to find the correct exit. Our support team will be available via chat at all times.
