What you can expect

Explore Wadi Rum, the “Valley of the Moon,” where towering mountains meet red and golden sands. Discover the secrets of the desert known only to its people.

Begin by visiting Wadi Khazali, a narrow gorge in the towering Khazali Mountain. See ancient Thamudic and Nabataean inscriptions, as well as rock carvings of ibex, camels, and humans dating back thousands of years. Walk through the canyon and enjoy the natural coolness, even in the height of summer. Look out for “al-qatr” – water flowing from the canyon walls.

Next, see Wadi Rum's world-renowned rock arches sculpted by the wind, defying gravity. Visit the Burdah Rock Bridge, the highest rock bridge in the desert. Reaching it requires a challenging trek and a slight climb, but the view from the top is unparalleled. Then, see the Umm Furuth Rock Bridge, the most photographed arch. Relatively easy to climb, it offers a breathtaking view at sunset. Finally, see the Little Bridge, located near several campsites. It's a quick stop and provides an ideal vantage point for taking photos of the valley.

Continue to the Red Sand Dunes (Al-Hasani Dunes), the beating heart of the desert. See vast slopes of soft sand that change color from bright orange at midday to deep crimson at dusk. It's the perfect place for desert activities.

Next, try sandboarding, one of the best sandboarding locations in the world, thanks to its unique sand texture and the steepness of its dunes. Use specially designed wooden boards or durable plastic boards. A special wax is applied to the bottom of the board to ensure a smooth glide on the sand. Sandboard standing up (for adventurers) or sitting/recumbent (ideal for beginners and children).

Finally, experience authentic desert life. Drink tea brewed over a fire. Bedouin tea is prepared over a wood fire (such as tamarisk or rhizome), and wild sage or thyme is usually added. It's sweet, smoky, and simply irresistible. Sit around a fire under a sky sparkling with millions of stars. The Milky Way is often visible to the naked eye here.
