What you can expect
Begin your tour at the main entrance of the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens ( Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens admission ticket not included ) in Verbania, overlooking the stunning Lake Maggiore. This immersive experience introduces you to more than 20,000 plant species from around the world, combining history, nature, and breathtaking landscapes.
Step onto the enchanting Viale delle Conifere, a pathway lined with towering, centuries-old conifers that offer glimpses of panoramic views. On the right, discover the meticulously arranged Italian Garden, with geometric flowerbeds, ornate fountains, and vibrant rose gardens that awaken all the senses. Each corner presents a new perspective, evoking fairy-tale landscapes reminiscent of a whimsical storybook world.
Continue to the Tulip and Dahlia Maze, where seasonal displays feature up to 80,000 Dutch tulips in spring and dazzling dahlias in summer. Wander along the Via delle Essenze, home to aromatic and tropical plants such as coffee, sugar cane, mint, and limoncella, while learning fascinating details about their origins and uses.
The tour then passes the Serra Vittoria, an external tropical greenhouse with a vertical garden. Even from the outside, this structure showcases exotic plants arranged to preserve its delicate microclimate, offering a rare glimpse into the world of tropical horticulture. Stroll along the Via degli Aceri and through the Rhododendron Woods, surrounded by vibrant colors and enticing scents as you make your way toward the higher terraces of the gardens.
Among the garden’s highlights is the Mausoleum Chapel, a classic architectural gem with a stone façade, decorative columns, and a harmonious portico. Its refined exterior design, set against lush greenery, provides a serene and evocative stop along your walk.
In the upper part of the gardens, admire the Lotus Flower Pond and the Water Lily Pond, which bloom spectacularly in summer. Nearby, the Terraced Gardens unfold across multiple levels, featuring cascading waterfalls, ornamental ponds, manicured lawns, and thousands of seasonal blooms that transform in color and fragrance with the seasons. Elevated terraces offer sweeping views of Lake Maggiore, surrounding mountains, and elegant garden layouts, while pathways invite exploration and perfect photographic moments.
Continue north to discover the Winter Garden and the succulent plant area, home to rare and striking species from around the world. The route then leads to the Villa Taranto Garden Bridge, a stunning iron-and-stone structure connecting two terraces, with breathtaking views over ponds and fountains below.
Conclude your immersive journey past the columned well and along the Staircase of Amphorae, returning to the main entrance. This tour leaves a lasting impression of the beauty, botanical diversity, and panoramic perspectives of the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens in Verbania, creating memories that will stay with you long after your visit.
