Begin at the heart of the historic center, Piazza Ducale, a grand square renowned for its elegance. This is one of Italy’s most beautiful Renaissance jewels, where the harmonious designs by Leonardo da Vinci and Donato Bramante come alive. Admire from the outside the Visconti-Sforza Castle or the Ducal Castle, which was once the residence of Ludovico il Moro, his wife Beatrice d’Este, and their court. Redesigned in the Renaissance style by Bramante, it is one of Europe’s largest castles and now houses museums.

Among these are the Leonardiana Museum, celebrating Leonardo da Vinci’s genius, and the Museum of Footwear, honoring Vigevano’s legacy as the birthplace of industrial shoemaking and stiletto heels.
