The Othello Castle, built in the 14th century, is considered one of the most famous landmarks of Famagusta. It is located in the northern part of the city fortifications, which were built during the time of the Venetians to protect the harbor from attacks from the sea. The structure got its name for a reason - Shakespeare's tragedy begins here. The plot of the work was partially borrowed from the life of the Venetian general Moro (which means "Moor" in Italian), who served in Cyprus and lost his wife Desdemona there.
