The Lagoons de La Mata and Torrevieja Natural Park is one of the most important ecological gems of the Valencian Community. This internationally important wetland (included in the RAMSAR agreement) occupies about 3,700 hectares and offers a landscape of unique contrasts between green and pink. Here is a detailed description of what you will find in this protected space: 1. The Two Lagoons System The park is organized around two large artificially connected sheets of water: La Mata Lagoon (Green): This is the lagoon that gives its name to the interpretation center. Its greenish color is due to a lower salinity than its neighbor, which allows a greater diversity of microorganisms and vegetation on its banks. Torrevieja Lagoon (Rosa) : Famous for its deep pink waters, it is where industrial salt extraction takes place. It is an almost lunar landscape and extremely photogenic. 2. Flora and Fauna : A Refuge of Life of flamingos and diversity of birds

Torre del Moro is one of the oldest and most significant monuments in Torrevieja. Strategically located over Cape Cervera, at one of the highest points on the coast, it offers one of the most impressive panoramas of the entire Alicante coastline. Here are the fundamental details that define it: Origin and Historical Function Coast Guard : It is part of the network of watchtowers that ran along the Spanish Mediterranean coast since the 14th century. Its main function was to alert the population and neighbouring towns to incursions by Barbary pirates. Warning System: When a threat was seen from the horizon, bonfires were lit at the top of the tower to quickly warn along the coast. Architecture and Restoration Structure: It is a circular tower built with masonry. Although the original structure has suffered the passage of time and historical attacks, it was rebuilt while maintaining its defensive style.

The Paseo Juan Aparicio is possibly the place with the most personality of Torrevieja. What makes it special is that it breaks away from the typical “promenade with sandy beach” scheme to offer something much more integrated with the rocky character of the coastline. Here is an assessment of its strengths and its atmosphere: Best : Your functional design It is a total success how the rock overhangs have been used to create the natural pools. These areas bounded by spits allow bathing in calm and crystal clear waters even when there is some swell outside. It is the ideal place for those who prefer to swim without being filled with sand or to do some quick snorkeling in the heart of the city. The environment : The social heart If you want to beat the city, you have to go there. It's a vibrant ride: Gastronomy : The offer is immense. From classic ice cream parlors to fresh fish restaurants with terraces that are literally over the sea.
