What you can expect

Your sumo experience begins with a clear and engaging introduction to the world of sumo, where you will learn about its history, cultural background, and spiritual roots in Japan. This explanation helps you understand the traditions behind sumo before seeing it performed live.

This is not your typical sumo restaurant show, but an authentic, interactive experience. Retired professional sumo wrestlers make their powerful entrance, allowing you to feel their presence, size, and unique aura up close. The wrestlers then demonstrate authentic sumo training methods and techniques, showing how they build strength, balance, and skill through daily morning practice.

Through live demonstrations, the rules of sumo are explained in a simple and easy-to-follow way, including how a match starts, how victory is decided, and which techniques are prohibited. With this knowledge, you can fully enjoy watching the intensity of a real sumo match as the wrestlers compete seriously in the ring.

After the live match, guests who wish to participate are invited to step into the ring. While traditional sumo stables do not allow women to enter the ring due to long lasting customs, this experience welcomes women and children to step into the ring and participate. Participants have the rare opportunity to wear a mawashi and experience authentic sumo training exercises practiced during morning training at sumo stables, such as shiko (leg stomps) and suriashi (sliding footwork). This hands-on session allows you to move, train, and feel what it is like to prepare as a sumo wrestler. Guests who prefer to observe are also welcome to simply watch and enjoy the experience.

The experience continues with a fun and safe challenge match against the wrestlers, creating an unforgettable and interactive moment. Once the matches are over, there will be time to take photos with the wrestlers and capture lasting memories.

The experience concludes with authentic chanko nabe served alongside the rikishi, the traditional hot pot that supports a sumo wrestler’s daily life. Sharing a meal with the wrestlers offers a rare opportunity to connect, ask questions, and end the experience in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
