What you can expect

  • Embark on a memorable one-day journey from Nagoya to Tokoname, a historic pottery town renowned for its centuries-old ceramic traditions. This tour is perfect for anyone who wants to discover authentic Japanese craftsmanship, stroll through charming streets, and experience one of Japan's most famous pottery towns.
    Meeting Time: 9:15 AM

As we will take the train shortly after meeting, we recommend storing large luggage in the station lockers and using the restroom before the tour begins.

From Nagoya Station, we will travel to Tokoname, a town with more than 1,000 years of pottery history.

Our first stop is the INAX Live Museum, where you will learn about ceramics, architecture, and design through a variety of engaging exhibits. The museum offers an excellent introduction to Tokoname's rich pottery heritage and its influence on everyday life in Japan.

After visiting the museum, you will have free time for lunch (meal cost not included). The area offers a variety of local restaurants, many of which serve their dishes on Tokoname-made pottery, giving you another chance to experience the town's ceramic culture.

You may also choose to join an optional Maneki-neko (Lucky Cat) painting experience. Decorate your own ceramic lucky cat with colorful pens and take home a one-of-a-kind souvenir. This activity is suitable for both adults and children.
This optional experience is available only after your tour booking has been confirmed and is subject to availability.

Next, we will visit Tokonyan, Tokoname's iconic giant beckoning cat. As you explore the area, you will also find many different Maneki-neko statues, reflecting the town's long tradition of producing lucky cats.

We will then walk along the Tokoname Pottery Footpath, the highlight of the town. This scenic route takes you past historic kilns, pottery-lined walls, traditional workshops, galleries, and cafés. It is the perfect place to experience the atmosphere of Tokoname, where pottery remains part of everyday life.

Our final stop is the Takita Family Residence, a beautifully preserved merchant house from the Edo period. Here, you can explore traditional Japanese architecture and learn about the lifestyle of a wealthy shipping merchant's family.

After a day discovering Tokoname's history, craftsmanship, and local culture, we will return to Nagoya.
