What you can expect
Escape the city and head toward the northern tip of Borneo for adventures in a more remote area of the island. Shop at the Kota Belud Tamu (Sunday market), admire the popping colors worn by the Bajau horsemen, and visit a traditional Rungus longhouse to watch handicraft-making and honey farming.
Take a journey to the northern tip of Borneo Island and travel towards the town of Kota Belud. At the Sundays-only Kota Belud Tamu, take an exciting stroll through many stalls of local artisanal vendors, farmers, and fishermen. You can shop for local produce, or dig deeper for handmade jewelry and unique souvenirs.
Continue onward to Gombizou and Sumangkap native villages, and observe locals working hard at honey bee farming and gong making, respectively. Break for a tasty lunch of colloquial delicacies.
Next, visit the Kampung Bavanggazo, or Rungus longhouse, where the Rungus people reside. Observe how families exist under the roof of a single structure, and the traditions they practice with each other. The Rungus are mostly farmers and gifted artisans, who weave baskets and create elaborate beadwork.
After your eventful day, make your way back to the hotel in the comfort of your air-conditioned transfer.
