Day 1: Heritage, Temples & City Sights
Begin your day with a visit to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, known for its stunning Dravidian architecture. Please note that only Hindus are allowed inside, and a dress code applies. Next, explore the Kuthiramalika Palace Museum, a royal residence with antique collections, located right next to the temple.
Continue to the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, an important local shrine famous for the Attukal Pongala festival. In the afternoon, enjoy a traditional Kerala vegetarian lunch at Villa Maya or Ariya Nivaas.
After lunch, visit the Napier Museum and Sri Chitra Art Gallery to see historical artifacts, ancient musical instruments, and paintings by Raja Ravi Varma. Take a peaceful walk in the Kanakakunnu Palace grounds, a serene green area.
In the evening, drive to Shankhumugham Beach, close to the airport. Relax by the sea and visit the giant Matsya Kanyaka (Mermaid) sculpture. Enjoy a sunset view and snacks from beach vendors. If you wish, you can also go shopping at Chalai Bazaar for spices, handicrafts, and textiles.
Day 2: Nature & Coastline (Day Trip)
Start your day with a drive to Kovalam Beach, about 30 minutes away. Visit Lighthouse Beach and Hawa Beach, and optionally climb the Vizhinjam Lighthouse for panoramic views. Relax on the beach or take part in optional activities like Ayurvedic massages, boat rides, or surfing.
In the afternoon, have lunch at The Leela Raviz or Bait by Taj Vivanta, both offering seaside dining. After lunch, you can choose to visit Vellayani Lake or the Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium.
Return to the city in the evening and enjoy coffee or snacks at the Indian Coffee House, known for its spiral tower, or at Terrace by Muthoot Skychef for rooftop views.
