Starting from the meeting point "La Baita" at 1900 m. you cross the lava flows of the eruptions of 2001, 02 and 03, which during the eruptive event have partly destroyed the existing tourist infrastructure on the southern side of the Volcano as well as threatened the town of Nicolosi. Continuing you will visit the so-called "ABYSS", cave where ancestors tried to conserve snow. Further on you will pass by the Small Crater south - east to reach an altitude of 2100 m. where you can admire the BUTTON CRATERS, named so for their particular morphology, originated during these eruptions and whose lavas are characterized by the presence of sedimentary rock inclusions. After the visit to the Craters mentioned above, you will go down a descent of volcanic sand very fun, passing to the slopes of Calcarazzi Craters, where you can admire a splendid view of the Ionian Coast.
