Begin your journey in the morning as you leave Tbilisi and head east toward the wild and less-traveled region of Kakheti. As the city fades away, the scenery transforms into dramatic steppe and semi-desert landscapes — a completely different side of Georgia.

Before reaching the monastery, stop at the stunning Rainbow Mountains, known for their layered, mineral-colored hills. Take time to walk, explore, and capture incredible photos — this natural phenomenon creates a surreal, almost Mars-like landscape.

Arrive at the main part of the complex — Lavra Monastery, founded in the 6th century by Saint David Garejeli, one of the 13 Assyrian Fathers. For those who want more adventure, there is an optional hike up to Udabno Monastery, located along the ridge. Access may be restricted depending on border conditions. After exploring the complex and soaking in the views, begin your return journey to Tbilisi, arriving in the evening.
