Pier Location: Cruises depart from the iconic Xinshiqiao Pier (新市桥码头), the main hub of the ancient city's river network.
How to Get There by Metro: Take Metro Line 5 to Xinshiqiao Station (新市桥站), Exit 2, and walk just 100 to 150 meters straight to the entrance of the pier, completely avoiding city traffic.
[Suzhou Grand Canal and Onboard Experience]
Unlike a simple city stroll, this experience aboard a traditional Chinese boat (畫舫) highlights the structural details of the thousand-year-old stone arches and the defensive aesthetics of the historic moat, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site:
Scenic Circular Route (Approx. 45–50 minutes): The route passes key historical landmarks, including the historic Panmen Gate, Renmin Bridge (with its artistic engravings), Nanyuan Bridge, and Midu Bridge, offering a perspective from the water that is completely different from that of the gardens on land.
Live Suzhou Pingtan Show: During the tour, passengers can enjoy live performances of Pingtan (traditional music and singing from the Wu region with stringed instruments), immersing themselves in the local intangible cultural heritage.
Nighttime Magic (Highly Recommended): If you choose the evening departure, the banks of the canal feature an artistic lighting system that highlights the historic gray brick walls and bridges with subtle projections, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional Chinese ink painting in motion.
[Suggested Itinerary and Practical Tips]
Ideal Combination: Spend the morning and afternoon exploring classical gardens such as the Humble Administrator's Garden (Zhuozheng Yuan) or historic Pingjiang Street, and save the evening (recommended between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM) for the night cruise.
Note: It is recommended to arrive at the pier 15 minutes early for boarding check-in and to choose the best seats by the windows.
