Start off with a leg-stretching walk around the Thurston Gardens, where you can snap photos of swaying palms, delicate waterlillies, and grassy ginger. Learn about Sir John Bates Thurston, the 19th-century governor whose name the gardens bear, and then continue on to catch glimpses of the palatial grounds of the Government House.

Watch the ceremonial choreography of the changing of the guard outside the President's residence, look for students crisscrossing the campus at the nearby University of the South Pacific, and then head to a local handicrafts market where colorful stalls offer up intriguing souvenirs and aromatic street food vendors lure you in to try a melting pot of international cuisines.
