What you can expect
Inside it is the Franciscan Convent, a wonderful place that exudes peace and tranquility. Its three colonial courtyards, the majestic thousand-year-old tree that bears witness to the city’s colonial and republican history, the church’s intricately carved wooden choir, and a wonderful collection of colonial and republican paintings await to be explored. Descending through the city’s historic streets, you head to the Santa Clara Museum, one of the most mystical places in Sucre. In the upper choir, works by painters such as Bernardo Bitti, Gaspar Miguel de Berrio, and Melchor Pérez de Holguín are displayed, along with cedar wood sculptures. The treasure of the museum is a restored 17th-century organ, which is played on special occasions. Visitors can also explore the crypt where nuns were buried in centuries past, up to 50 years ago. You can also visit the church and stroll through the nuns' cloister. The tour concludes with a visit to the San Felipe de Neri Museum and Convent, an ostentatious representation of the influence of the Catholic Church on the flourishing American society. From its terraces, between colonial-style tiled domes, towers and bell towers adorned with silver, you can appreciate the impressive panorama of the city. Conclude the trip at your hotel in Sucre.
