One of Strasbourg ‘s special features is its proximity to Germany.

Whether by streetcar, on foot, by bike or by car, the Rhine is crossed every day by many workers and private individuals.

The Jardin des Deux Rives is a symbol of this proximity. Here, you can stroll along both banks of the Rhine, enjoy a sunny afternoon, go jogging or go shopping. On the German side, we’ll talk about life on the border and the cultural and architectural differences between the two countries.

Our tour begins at the Coopérative district, a neighborhood in the making, which we’ll cross before joining the Jardin des Deux-Rives.

We’ll then cross the bridge separating the two countries to reach Kehl. Inaugurated in 2003, this pedestrian and cycle-only bridge enables many people from Strasbourg to travel to Germany every day, whatever the time of day. It is one of the symbols of the freedom of movement that characterizes the member countries of the European Union.

The town of Kehl, opposite Strasbourg, is a little foretaste of Germany. You’ll discover this charming little town, the first German city to cross the Rhine.
