The Highlights of our route:
• Cavity Chaos: Our adventure begins at one of the most impressive natural monuments in Attica.
A giant chasm, 55 meters deep, created by the collapse of a cave roof. The view from its edge is literally breathtaking and offers the perfect “local secret” for photos.
• Ancient Mines & Washers: We will walk among the ruins of the ancient silver mining and processing facilities. You will see up close the ancient ore washers and tanks, a wonder of ancient engineering that gave Athens the wealth to build the Acropolis.
• Mine galleries and shafts: Throughout our journey, we will have the opportunity to see the entrances of ore mines and approach them at a safe distance to get a sense of how the miners of the time worked.
• The Miners' Houses: As the path leads us to the heart of the 19th-century settlement, time seems to stand still. We will walk among the stone houses that once teemed with life, where the daily routine of the miners became one with the hard stone and the light of Attica.
Through the ruins and silent courtyards, we will see the traces of the people who, with toil and tenacity, shaped the future of the area. It is not just a settlement; it is a mosaic of memory, where the traditional architecture of the last century meets the raw charm of the Lavrion land.
• The settlement of Agia Triada: We will make a stop at the historic settlement of Agia Triada. Under the shade of the pine trees, we will wander among the old miners' houses and get a close-up view of one of the oldest industrial landscapes in Europe.
• Flora & Scents: As we cross the plateau of Souniada, we will come into contact with the unique vegetation of the Park.
We will see the imposing Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis), centuries-old olive trees, as well as the characteristic maquis vegetation of the Attic land, full of the aromas of wild thyme and rosemary.
