What you can expect
The Mulhacén, at 3,480 m, is the roof of the Sierra Nevada and the Iberian Peninsula. On this 2-day route, we will guide you to its summit, where you can enjoy unbeatable views and sensations.
Important: the Poqueira refuge is currently closed for renovations and cannot be used until further notice. For now, we will spend the night in a bivouac shelter, so it is necessary to bring your own food, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat for an overnight stay.
Day 1
Departure from the Portillo basin in Capileira. We will cross the pine forest where in its highest part, we will see the twisted pine trees with very curious shapes due to the forces of the air and the snow. We will go up to the Poqueira refuge, where we will spend the night and rest before ascending Mulhacén the next day.
Day 2
After breakfast we will ascend the Mulhacén River to reach the Caldera lagoon at about 3000m high. After a short rest we will begin the attack to the summit. On our ascent, we will stop at Collado del Ciervo, where we will take a breather and marvel at the views before our eyes. The impressive walls of the Alcazaba and Mulhacén, with the Mosca lagoon at their feet, will occupy our entire field of vision. Once we have conquered its summit, we will descend along the southern slope towards the Portillo basin in Capileria.
- If you are in good physical condition and snow conditions allow, this route can also be completed in a single day.
If the Poqueira refuge is used (once it is available), accommodation costs are not included for either the client or the guide. The client will be responsible for covering the expenses corresponding to the guide’s refuge stay, as is customary in these types of services.
