Depart early in the morning from your hotel with a Jeep to Kulen Mountain, one of Cambodia’s most sacred mountains, with deeply revered ancient sites and ruins on its high plateau. The roads are peaceful, narrow, and very pretty all the way to Kulen Moutain. There are plenty of beautiful countryside views to see along the way as we drive past rice paddies, local markets, schools, villages, and Buddhist temples. Stop off to visit Palm Sugar Village, where they make palm sugar out of palm juice.
Afterward, we continue to the National Park, where you’ll be able to pause to catch a breathtaking view. You will explore the vast plateau of Phnom Kulen, led by our English-speaking guide. Then, we step into the jungle trails through the vine-covered trees until we reach the River of 1000 Lingas, an array of unique riverbed carvings, and nearby Preah Ang Thom, a huge stone Buddha carved into the top of a rock set in a bustling but atmospheric temple complex.
We’ll have lunch at a local restaurant and cool down from the day’s adventure with a swim at Kulen Waterfall before returning to Siem Reap. Relax and reflect on the natural wonders of Phnom Kulen and its rich history.
