Trompe l’oeil makes plaster read as marble; foreshortening lifts ceilings; gilded stucco catches light; side-altars shape attention. We consider how optics, proportion, and process (grids, perspective, mirrors) structure persuasion. A brief exploration of acoustics—how the vault carries sound—shows how music and architecture cooperate. Light, gesture, rhythm, and movement become a grammar you can learn to read.
In the Brukenthal Palace salons, we shift from devotion to display. Here we study courtly taste: fabrics and mirrors, seating plans and sightlines, the choreography of entrances and exits. We trace how ornament quotes antiquity, how color and sheen stage rank and hospitality, and how the small arts—stucco, gilding, marquetry—support illusion. The aim is not more rooms, but a clearer eye: how Baroque craft makes ideas visible.
