Discover one of Sciacca's most fascinating treasures through the hands of those who still preserve the art of working with it today.
Enter the workshop of a local artisan and enjoy an experience dedicated to the coral of Sciacca, its history and the deep connection that this material has with the sea and the identity of the town.
The experience starts with the coral itself. You'll be able to observe it up close, touch it and discover its particular characteristics, its different shades and what sets it apart from other Mediterranean corals.
Through the artisan's narrative, you will learn about the history of its discovery, its relationship with the area and its evocative connection with Ferdinandea Island, the volcanic island that emerged from the sea off Sciacca in the 19th century.
You will then dive into the heart of the craft. You'll learn about the tools in the workshop, the working techniques and the care required to transform such a delicate and precious material.
At this point, it will be your turn to put yourself to the test.
Guided by the artisan, you will personally work on a piece of fossil coral, trying out some of the steps of the process until you make a small horn, a traditional symbol of good luck.
No previous experience is required: the artisan will be by your side and will guide you step by step.
At the end, the cornetto you have made will be yours to keep.
Not just a souvenir, but something that will have a different meaning because you will know its story and will have seen it take shape in your hands.
You'll take away with you a small piece of Sciacca and, above all, the memory of having created it together with someone who has made this art their profession.
