What you can expect

The Siege of Sarajevo Tour is an authentic, intense and deeply human experience that will allow you to truly understand what it meant to live in the city during the period 1992–1996. It is not just a historical tour, but a direct encounter with the living memory of Sarajevo.

We will start in the Dobrinja district, one of the most affected areas during the siege, with a visit to the Veterans' Museum. Here you will not only hear historical explanations, but you will have the unique opportunity to meet the commander who defended this area. Sitting together, sharing a coffee inside the museum, you can listen to his first-hand account: true stories, authentic emotions, episodes of courage, and difficult moments experienced on the front lines. This moment makes the tour personal, human, and unforgettable.

We will continue to the former neonatal hospital, a symbol of civil resistance, where doctors and nurses worked without electricity, water or sufficient resources, struggling every day to save innocent lives. Through the story, you will understand how fragile and at the same time strong daily life was under siege.

We will then reach the Jewish Cemetery, one of the most important strategic points during the conflict. From here you can look out over the city and understand the position of the lines and the phenomenon sadly known as the “Sarajevo safari”, observing Sarajevo from above to understand its geographical vulnerability.

We will pass through the neighborhoods of Hrasno and Grbavica, areas that experienced the division of the city on the front lines. The explanations along the route will help you imagine everyday life among checkpoints, fear, and hope. We will make a stop at the bridge dedicated to Suada and Olga, a symbol of the first civilian victims and the beginning of the protests for peace.

The tour continues towards Brdo Žuč, a hill that was crucial for the defense of the city. We will visit the Žuč Museum and see the Wings of Žuč, a monument that symbolizes resistance and freedom. From this vantage point, you can clearly see how strategic this position was for the survival of Sarajevo.

We will then climb to the Yellow Fortress for a full view of the valley, a moment that combines historical explanation with a strong visual impact. We will conclude at the Kovači Cemetery, a place of great symbolic value where many defenders of the city are buried. Here we will end with a moment of reflection on the resilience, dignity and extraordinary strength of Sarajevo, a city that has suffered but has never stopped believing in the future.
