What you can expect
Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa We will pick you up at the meeting point in Cusco between 4:45 and 5:30 to take the bus to Mollepata. After a two-hour trip, we will stop in Mollepata for breakfast (not included), as well as to buy last-minute provisions, stretch our legs or use the bathrooms, before continuing to Challacancha. Around 9:30 a.m., we will begin the hike to Soraypampa (3,900 meters above sea level). If we maintain a regular pace, it will take approximately 4 hours to reach Soraypampa, the first campsite, where we will have lunch. In the afternoon, after lunch, we will visit the Humantay lagoon. In the evening, a hot and delicious dinner. Day 2: Soraypampa - Salkantay Pass - Huayramachay - Chaullay Around 5:00 a.m., we will have a nutritious breakfast; At around 6:00 am we will start the most difficult day of the entire Salkantay trek; we will hike to the highest point of the trek. After 6 kilometers uphill through the magnificent landscape of the Rocky Mountains and enjoying the view of Mount Salkantay. We will reach the top of the trek. We will appreciate spectacular views of the mountains and the imposing snow-capped peaks of Salkantay (6264 meters above sea level), which is known as the second highest mountain in the Cusco region. After 2 hours of descent, around 1:00 pm we will have our delicious Peruvian lunch, in the area called Huayracmachay. Then we will continue our hike to Chaullay, approximately 3 hours of descent, we will arrive at our campsite in Chaullay = 2900 meters above sea level where we will sleep in some very spectacular indigenous huts. Around 18:00 we will have dinner to regain energy from the hike. Day 3: Chaullay | Collpapampa - La Playa - Aguas Calientes At 06:00 AM, we will begin our hike to the small town of La Playa through the valley of Santa Teresa
After a hearty lunch in La Playa, we will take the transport that will take us to the hydroelectric power station for 1 hour and a half. Afterwards we will walk 10 kilometers for 3 hours, along the train track, to the city of Aguas Calientes, hotel to spend the night. Day 4: The most important day: Machu Picchu! Today we reach the long-awaited end of our hike, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and UNESCO World Heritage Site: Machu Picchu! We will wake up early after a restful night at our hostel to get ahead of the crowds at the top of Machu Picchu and enjoy its serenity in the soft morning light. The entrance checkpoint to Machu Picchu opens from 06:00 to 15:00. We will climb to Machu Picchu (optional bus ride for $12.00) and enter the hidden Royal Citadel of the Incas. Here we will take a 2-hour guided tour. Train ride at 16:22 or 18:20 (subject to availability) to Ollantaytambo. A group minivan will be waiting for you,We will drop you off back at Plaza San Francisco in Cusco.
