What you can expect
Day 1: Arrival & Kigali City Tour
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, pass through customs and be met by your guide who will welcome you to Rwanda, the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Embark on a Kigali city tour, visiting key landmarks such as the Genocide Memorial and other monuments. After your tour, transfer to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Genocide Memorial Visit & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, journey to Volcanoes National Park, located approximately 80 km (about 2 hours) from Kigali. If you arrive early, have time to explore Kigali, including a visit to the National Museum or another tour of the Genocide Memorial Centre. After lunch, continue your transfer to the park.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking & Community Walk
After a hearty breakfast, head to the park headquarters by 8 AM for a gorilla trekking briefing. The trek can take 1-6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. Once you locate them, spend one hour observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Along the way, you may also encounter other wildlife like golden monkeys, buffaloes, and elephants. After your trek, return to the lodge for lunch. Later, enjoy a community walk to learn about local cultures or visit the scenic Burera and Ruhondo Lakes.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking & Transfer to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, embark on golden monkey trekking in search of these fascinating primates. Once you return, enjoy lunch before transferring to Lake Kivu, where you’ll spend the night. This picturesque lake offers stunning views, and you’ll have the evening free to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Day 5: Lake Kivu Exploration & Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Start your day with a boat cruise on Lake Kivu, spotting various bird species, including Cormorants, Pied Kingfishers, and more. Afterward, head to Nyungwe National Park for the evening.
Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk in Nyungwe
After breakfast, your adventure continues with a chimpanzee trekking experience in Nyungwe National Park. Spend an hour observing these fascinating primates. Following the trek, enjoy a delicious lunch, then embark on the Canopy Walk, which offers panoramic views of the forest below. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Today, travel to Akagera National Park, located in the east of Rwanda. The drive from Kigali takes approximately 6.5 hours. Upon arrival, enjoy a short game drive to spot some of the park’s wildlife. The park's southern region is home to impalas, zebras, giraffes, and even rhinos. The southern part offers great opportunities to spot these animals in their natural habitat.
Day 8: Boat Trip & Departure
Enjoy a relaxing boat trip on Lake Ihema, where you can spot hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species. If time allows, you can also enjoy a brief game drive before returning to Kigali for your departure.
