What you can expect

Fly through an ancient New Zealand forest on Rotorua’s award-winning Original Canopy Tour – a 2.5-hour guided zipline adventure combining incredible scenery, native wildlife, conservation and plenty of fun.

Journey deep into Ōkoheriki, a spectacular native forest accessible only with Rotorua Canopy Tours. You’ll experience six ziplines that gradually build in height, length and speed, reaching up to 50km/h as you fly between platforms high above the forest floor.

The longest zipline stretches 220 metres through the canopy, while platforms sit up to 22 metres above the ground. Between ziplines, cross suspended swing bridges, follow beautiful forest trails and stand beneath towering native trees, some more than 1,000 years old.

But this isn’t just a Rotorua zipline adventure.

You’re exploring a rare ancient forest that is being restored through one of New Zealand’s most successful privately led conservation projects. Predator control has helped native wildlife return in remarkable numbers, and every guest contributes directly to the continued restoration of this special place.

Keep an eye out for North Island robins, fantails (pīwakawaka), tomtits and kererū as you travel through the forest. These are completely wild birds, so encounters can never be guaranteed – their return is one of the visible signs of the forest coming back to life.

Two expert guides lead every adventure, taking care of your equipment and safety while sharing stories about the forest, conservation and New Zealand along the way. Small groups help keep the experience relaxed, personal and fun, making the Original Canopy Tour ideal for first-time zipliners, families and adventurous travellers alike.

What you’ll experience:

• Six guided ziplines through ancient native forest
• Speeds of up to 50km/h
• A 220-metre-long zipline
• Platforms up to 22 metres above the forest floor
• Suspended swing bridges and forest trails
• Opportunities to encounter native New Zealand wildlife
• Small groups with two expert guides
• Conservation in action – your visit directly helps restore the forest
• Suitable for ages 6+ and a wide range of fitness levels

Rotorua Canopy Tours has received major New Zealand and international tourism awards and thousands of five-star guest reviews.

If you’re looking for one of Rotorua’s most memorable things to do, this is an adventure where you don’t just see the forest – you fly through it and help protect it at the same time.
