Leave the coast behind and head into the heart of Serra Malagueta for an advanced hike through one of Santiago’s most scenic mountain regions. After pick-up at your accommodation in Praia (or the agreed meeting point), you travel to the starting point near Ribeira de Gongon, where your guide gives a short briefing and prepares you for the hike.
The route leads through green valleys, along mountain ridges, and past traditional agricultural terraces that shape the landscape. This hike is designed for experienced walkers who enjoy longer distances and elevation changes. Throughout the hike, you are treated to continuous views over the island’s interior, with plenty of opportunities to pause for photos and explanations from your guide about local nature, farming, and village life.
Reaching the high point of the route is a rewarding moment, offering panoramic views across Serra Malagueta and the surrounding valleys. The quiet atmosphere and cooler mountain climate make this area especially refreshing compared to the coast.
After the hike, you head to Serra Principal to slow the pace and unwind. Here, you enjoy an extensive lunch in a relaxed setting at local restaurant Pam de Terra with local food.
The day ends with a comfortable return to Praia, combining physical challenge, natural beauty, and cultural depth in one well-balanced experience.
