What you can expect

Embark on a 5 to 6-hour hike to the summit of Piton de la Fournaise on Reunion Island, one of the most active volcanoes in the world!

Piton de la Fournaise, a landmark of Reunion Island, rises to 2,632 meters and overlooks the southern plains of the island. Built on the southeastern flank of Piton des Neiges, it's a volcano known for its fairly frequent eruptions. The goal of this 5 to 6-hour hike is to reach the summit of Piton de la Fournaise, and to do so by getting off the beaten track and venturing off the marked trail!

Throughout this hike to Piton de la Fournaise, you'll discover a lunar landscape with an end-of-the-world vibe, exuding incredible power and well worth the trip. Once you reach the top of the volcano, you can admire the Dolomieu crater, one of the two volcanic craters located at the top of Piton de la Fournaise, along with the Bory crater. It collapsed during the April 2007 eruption and is one kilometer long, 750 meters wide, and about 350 meters deep.

Your hike to the volcano will be punctuated by commentary from your state-certified mountain guide, who will tell you all about the specifics of this captivating place.

So, put on your walking shoes and conquer the famous Piton de la Fournaise in Reunion Island on a hike to its summit!
