Meeting/Redemption Point
- salen, 9603 Hammerfest, Norge | Finding SamiBooking: To locate SamiBooking, you can search for it on Google Maps. The drive to the camp takes approximately 8 minutes by car. If you prefer to walk, it takes around 10-15 minutes from the city center via Sikksakkveien. You can search for Sikksakkveien on Google Maps to find the exact path. Meeting Point: The meeting point is located at the top of Salen mountain, where our camp consists of a large lavvo (traditional Sami tent) in an enclosed area that is easily visible upon arrival. The camp is situated right next to the road, making it easily accessible. If you are in the city center or arriving from a boat, you can reach the camp by walking up Sikksakkveien. This path starts in Salsgata, behind the blue music pavilion. The trail is wide and well-maintained, though slightly steep, with handrails along the way and benches at each turn. The view improves as you ascend, and a leisurely 10-15 minute walk will take you to one of the city's best viewpoints.

What you can expect
Your experience begins on Salen Mountain, just above Hammerfest, where reindeer graze freely during summer and early autumn. This is an active Sámi reindeer-herding area — not a zoo or fenced attraction — and the visit follows the natural rhythm of the animals.
Your Sámi guide welcomes you at the camp and introduces you to the herd. Many reindeer approach calmly and curiously, allowing you to feed them by hand and take close-up photos while learning about their behavior, life cycle, and the close relationship between reindeer and Sámi families.
After spending time with the reindeer, you gather inside a traditional lavvu. With a fire burning and reindeer hides for seating, the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. Here, your guide shares personal stories from reindeer herding, explains Sámi traditions, and performs joik — an ancient vocal expression unique to Sámi culture.
The pace of the experience is slow and respectful, with time for questions, photos, and quiet moments. The focus is on authenticity, cultural understanding, and connection to nature — not performances or entertainment.
From the camp, you can also enjoy panoramic views over Hammerfest and the Arctic Ocean, making this a memorable cultural experience set in true Arctic surroundings.
