The Civic Art Gallery of Reggio Calabria preserves works of art of exceptional artistic value that tell the story of art and collecting in Calabria from the 15th to the 20th century. The Art Historian and qualified tour guide will take you on a journey through time where you'll “meet,” among others, Antonello da Messina, Luca Giordano, Mattia Preti, Francesco Solimena, Francesco De Mura, and many nationally and internationally renowned 20th-century Calabrian artists. The history of the Pinacoteca will also be an opportunity to tell the story of this city, which has been mentioned by Italian and foreign poets, writers and travelers, each of whom has appreciated its artistic and scenic beauty.
The visit will start at the entrance of the museum. The guided tour of the Pinacoteca will be followed by a guided tour to discover the modern and contemporary works of art scattered throughout the historic center, a true Open-Air Museum. Think, among others, of the Monument to the Fallen by F. Jerace, the statues of Rabarama, a work by E. Tresoldi. The visit will end in Piazza Indipendenza, and you'll have the chance to freely taste typical local products or stroll along Corso Garibaldi, the main shopping street.
