What you can expect

The excursion begins at the Luis Piedrabuena pier in downtown Puerto Madryn. From there, we set sail aboard the Tiburón II, a modern semi-rigid boat designed for comfort and safety. The trip takes place in the waters of Golfo Nuevo, one of the most incredible places in the South Atlantic.

Our main objective will be to search for dusky dolphins, known for their jumps, acrobatics, and group play. These highly social animals travel in large pods and often approach the boat, creating an exciting and unforgettable experience.

During the trip, a bilingual naturalist tour guide will share information about the dolphins' biological cycle, their herd behavior, their communication techniques, and their role within the ecosystem of the Valdés Peninsula, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

One of the things that makes this excursion special is that you will also learn the search techniques we use at sea: how to interpret surface signs, bird behavior, and currents to locate the herds. It is not just about observing, but about understanding how nature offers clues to finding them.

Although the dark dolphin is the star of the show, the experience can surprise you with other encounters. Sometimes, it is possible to see South American sea lions feeding alongside the dolphins, sharing the hunt with various seabirds. There is also the possibility of sighting common dolphins, whose energy and speed add even more dynamism to the tour.

Golfo Nuevo is a natural sanctuary for bird watching: cormorants, Magellanic penguins, shearwaters, giant petrels, and albatrosses often accompany the boat trip, enriching the experience. At certain times, you can witness cooperative feeding, a spectacle in which birds, sea lions, and dolphins join forces to catch schools of fish.

The excursion is conducted under strict safety and conservation standards. Cruceros Ecológicos works with a strong environmental commitment, respecting provincial regulations and those of the Argentine Naval Prefecture. Our goal is to guarantee an authentic and responsible experience that always prioritizes the well-being of marine wildlife.

It is important to note that the trip is dependent on weather conditions. Both the schedule and the day may be modified to ensure passenger safety and increase the chances of sighting wildlife in its natural environment.

Upon returning to port, what remains is much more than the memory of a boat ride: it is the certainty of having experienced a genuine encounter with nature. The Dolphin Encounter in Puerto Madryn is an experience that combines adventure, learning, and excitement in an incomparable setting: Golfo Nuevo, the heart of Argentine Patagonia.
