What you can expect

Between July and November, these magnificent giants arrive from the southern hemisphere after traveling thousands of kilometers from the Antarctic. They come to the warm, protected waters of the Osa Peninsula to give birth and nurse their calve — creating an extraordinary natural spectacle. A rare opportunity to witness nature’s tenderness and strength in perfect harmony.

During this boat adventure, you may see whales playing, breaching, and teaching their young the survival skills they’ll need for their long migration home. Along the way, it’s also common to encounter bottlenose and spotted dolphins, sea turtles, sea snakes, and a variety of seabirds that inhabit this extraordinary ecosystem.

The tour lasts about three hours. We depart from the public pier in Puerto Jiménez at 7:00AM and navigate through the gulf in search of these majestic creatures. We follow their usual routes and remain respectful observers of their natural behavior. In the migration season there are very high chances of seeing them but keep in mind it is in the wild and nothing is guaranteed.

Before heading back, we make a stop at a secluded local beach to enjoy a refreshing swim and a light snack — the perfect ending to an unforgettable morning on the ocean.
