Overview

  • Swim with the largest fish in the ocean, at the surface, in one of the few bays on earth where whale sharks return every season to feed.

Departures from downtown La Paz on a small boat with a certified bilingual guide — snorkel equipment, life jacket and all permits and fees included.

A regulated encounter, done right: the environmental authority limits how many people may be in the water at a time, and your guide tells you when to enter and when to exit. Those rules are the reason this encounter still exists.

Whale sharks are wild animals in open water. Sightings are frequent in season, but never guaranteed — and we would rather tell you that before you book than after.

Activity itinerary

Swim alongside the largest fish in the ocean in La Paz Bay, in the Gulf of California — one of the few places on earth where whale sharks return each season to feed in shallow, protected water. You depart from downtown La Paz on a small boat with a certified guide. The encounter takes place at the surface, with snorkel and life jacket, in short authorized turns. Your guide explains how to approach without crossing the animal's path. HOW THE FOUR HOURS BREAK DOWN About one hour to reach the feeding area, around two hours in the encounter zone with two to three water entries, and about one hour back. Each entry is short and guided; how many you get depends on the day and on the animals. HOW YOUR DEPARTURE TIME IS ASSIGNED The environmental authority assigns departure turns each day, so we cannot confirm an exact time when you book. We contact you as soon as the schedule is released — the night before or early that morning — by WhatsApp and email. Please make sure we can reach you by phone or WhatsApp on the day of your activity. Whale sharks are wild animals: sightings are frequent in season, never guaranteed.
