Overview

  • This audio guide takes you around Hradčany, the historic district beside Prague Castle, from baroque pilgrimage sites to hidden lanes and grand palaces.

Your visit begins at Loreto, one of Prague’s most important pilgrimage sites. Discover the Santa Casa, cloister, baroque church and treasury, while exploring at your own pace.

Then wander through Nový Svět, a peaceful lane of colourful cottages where Tycho Brahe once lived. Learn why the houses bear golden names before returning to Hradčany Square, with its Renaissance palaces, Baroque plague column and historic gas lamp.

Your walk ends at a viewpoint overlooking Prague’s red rooftops.

Please note: Prague Castle is not included in this tour.

Activity itinerary

Loreto

  • 45m
  • Admission ticket included
Your visit starts at the Loreto, one of Prague's most important pilgrimage sites. Hidden inside stands a copy of a small stone house from Nazareth — the house where, according to Christian tradition, the Virgin Mary lived. The guide starts outside, with the story of the place and its famous carillon. Inside, it takes you to the highlights — the Santa Casa, the cloister, the baroque church and the treasury — and leaves you free to explore at your own pace.

Novy Svet

  • 30m
You will descend into Nový Svět, a lane of tiny coloured houses where the noise of the city stops. Tycho Brahe lived here in 1600. Allen Ginsberg visited in 1965. And almost every house carries a golden name — you will find out why.

Hradcanske Namesti

  • 30m
From there you climb back up to Hradčany Square — the square everyone crosses on the way to the castle, and almost nobody stops at. You will discover its renaissance palaces, a baroque plague column, and a gas lamp that still burns with a real flame.
