Podgorica Uncovered: A Journey Through Time & Tradition
Join us In Podgorica for an authentic walking tour with locals that reveals the complex soul of Montenegro’s capital. From socialist monuments and modern bridges to the hidden oriental alleys of the Old Town, this tour connects the dots between Podgorica’s diverse eras and its local lifestyle.
Our journey begins at Independence Square (Trg Nezavisnosti), the city’s vibrant center. We’ll start by honoring the legends of Montenegro at the monuments of Marko Miljanov Popović, the symbol of bravery and honor, and Petar II Petrović Njegoš, our greatest poet-philosopher.
We then move towards the Morača River. You'll stand on the Old Pedestrian Bridge to enjoy the best view of the striking Millennium Bridge, Podgorica’s modern architectural crown. Nearby, we’ll visit the monument of Josip Broz Tito, a tribute to the era when the city was known as Titograd, and learn about its socialist heritage.
Next, we descend to Sastavci, the picturesque confluence of the Ribnica and Morača rivers. Here, you’ll see the Old Stone Bridge, a Roman-style gem, and get a perfect view of the famous Hotel Podgorica, a masterpiece of Yugoslav architecture built into the river cliffs.
We’ll then step into the “oriental” heart of the city. We visit the Starodoganjska Mosque, dating back to the 15th century, and walk through the narrow, atmospheric Džan Street. You’ll stand beneath the iconic Sahat Kula (Clock Tower), the city’s most famous landmark.
To wrap up our experience, we’ll visit the Čubranović House, the oldest preserved home in Podgorica, and see the remains of the Turkish Bath (Hammam), which today serves as a unique cultural hub.
By the end of this walk, you won’t just see Podgorica—you will understand its history, its resilience, and the authentic lifestyle of its people.
