What you can expect

Begin your tour from Stazione Foce, a fishing station, tourist spot, and cruise dock, situated a few kilometers south of the little city of Comacchio. From there, look at the area from high up an observation tower, and then begin your walk, towards the northeastern area of Valli di Comacchio.

Look at the ancient Saltworks (Saline di Comacchio) — a protected area usually closed to the public — while we walk the path with the water on both sides. Watch the birds foraging, floating on the surface, swimming, and flying above you.

The late afternoon light is ideal to photograph this kind of landscape and the wildlife, possibly including the Greater Flamingo, one of the symbols of the regional park. This species has been living here as a resident since the late 90s and is breeding here in this exact area, now forming one of the 4 Italian existing colonies the species.

Once you arrive at the saltworks area, notice how the landscape changes, as the human presence has influenced it through the centuries. Look for more bird species that have found an optimal habitat here to survive and thrive.

While looking at the sunset and to the Valli from high up an observation tower, snap more pictures and then head back to Stazione Foce.
