Panjim, Goa's capital, is known for its Indo-Portuguese architecture, among the first to be built after the capital moved from Old Goa. At the heart of it lies Fontainhas, the Latin Quarter, where narrow lanes, pastel façades, and centuries of history come alive.
On this walk, you'll trace the “Making of Panaji,” from the tobacco trade era to the minting of coins, right through to its time as the final administrative centre of the Portuguese. You'll hear how Nova Goa rose as the new capital after Old Goa was abandoned due to disease, and walk past the neighbourhood's most iconic landmarks and chapels while your guide shares local stories and legends.
Along the way, you'll step inside a local Goan home and stop at one of the city's oldest bakeries, in operation since the 1920s, for a taste of traditional snacks and sweets. Covering about 1.5 km at a relaxed pace, this walk is an easy, immersive way to see Panjim beyond its cafés and shopping streets.
