Nestled in the enchanting Padua Hills, this olive mill tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich heritage of olive oil production. Located near the historic town of Arquà Petrarca, where the famous poet Francesco Petrarca once lived, the mill's story dates back to the 1700s. Originally founded by the Dogi Contarini at Villa Contarini, the mill was later moved to its current picturesque location in the 1960s. Here, surrounded by the stunning volcanic landscape of the Colli Euganei, visitors can explore the fascinating blend of tradition and innovation that defines this unique olive oil experience.

The tour begins with a warm welcome and an introduction to the mill's captivating history.

Walk through the estate and discover its origins as a small, mule-powered mill that has evolved into a modern facility. The mill still honors its roots with the original granite millstones and antique pressing methods, side by side with advanced cold extraction technologies. This unique combination ensures that every drop of extra virgin olive oil produced retains its authentic taste and nutritional qualities.

Visitors will be guided through the entire olive oil production process, from the careful harvesting of olives from the organic groves on Monte Brecale and Monte Resino, to the traditional cold pressing and modern extraction methods used today. Learn how the volcanic soil of the Colli Euganei infuses the olives with a distinctive flavor, giving each variety of olive oil its unique character. Watch as the olives are cleaned, milled, and transformed into rich, fragrant oils using techniques that preserve their natural taste and quality.

The highlight of the tour is the guided tasting session, where visitors can sample a range of exquisite extra virgin olive oils. Taste the distinct flavors of D.O.P. certified Veneto Euganei and Berici oils, organic varieties, and the special Rasara monocultivar, all served on freshly baked bread. The tasting is complemented by a selection of gourmet products, including black and green olive pâtés, basil pesto, sun-dried tomato pâté, and olives in brine.

The organic oil mill is deeply committed to sustainability and quality. The groves are cultivated according to strict organic and D.O.P. standards, ensuring that the highest quality olives are used in the production process. The mill also prioritizes environmental sustainability, utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar panels and biogas production, and practicing water recycling.
