What You Will Experience:Handcraft an outdoor knife!

  1. Check-in & Welcome
    Arrive at the studio and be greeted by your instructor, Daiki, a seasoned knife professional withyears of experience.

  2. Change into Traditional Blacksmith Attire
    Put on the craftsman’s uniform worn by Japanese smiths. This instantly sets the tone and immerses you in the world of authentic forging.

  3. Introduction to Tools & Safety
    Learn how to handle key blacksmithing tools—hammers, tongs, grinders—and receive clear explanations to ensure your safety throughout the session.

  4. Understanding the Forging Process
    Daiki explains the traditional techniques used to craft Japanese kitchen knives and how each step transforms raw steel into a blade.

  5. Heating the Steel
    The raw iron is placed into the furnace and heated until it glows red-hot. This moment, filled with heat and anticipation, marks the beginning of your creation.

  6. The Highlight: Forging the Blade
    Guided closely by Daiki, you strike the glowing steel repeatedly with a hammer.
    He teaches you the correct hammering angle, rhythm, and precision—ensuring you experience true forging while staying safe.

  7. Cooling & Refining
    The metal is cooled and checked for shape. You’ll refine rough edges and prepare the blade for sharpening.

  8. Sharpening the Knife
    Under expert instruction, use sharpening stones and grinders to bring the edge to life. Even beginners can shape a functional blade with Daiki’s guidance.

  9. Polishing & Final Finish
    Polish the blade to a clean, elegant shine. This final step transforms your forged steel into a beautiful handcrafted knife.

  10. Completion & Photo Time
    Your finished knife—about 13–15 cm long and fully handmade—is ready to take home.
    Photos and videos are welcome throughout the process, so you can capture each milestone.

  11. Closing & Questions
    Ask any final questions about techniques, history, or knife care. Daiki is happy to share his professional knowledge.
