Activity itinerary

Day 1: Cusco - Santa Maria - biking activity (optional Rafting)

  • 1 stop
  • Meals: lunch, snacks
  • Accommodation: Bella Victoria Lodge

Ollantaytambo

  • 6h
We begin our adventure early in the morning with a comfortable trip from Cusco. After about 3 hours driving through the beautiful Sacred Valley, we arrive at Paso Abra Málaga, a high mountain pass at 4,350 meters (14,271 feet) above sea level. This is where the fun begins with a downhill bike ride all the way into the jungle. After a safety briefing and getting our gear on, we hop on our bikes and start the ride. Over the next 55 km, the landscape changes dramatically: from the cold mountain air to the warm, misty climate of the cloud forest. The ride takes between 3.5 and 4 hours, and we always have a support vehicle nearby in case anyone needs it. In the afternoon, we stop for a well-deserved lunch in Santa María. Optional: Rafting on the Vilcanota River, paddling through class II and III+ rapids surrounded by tropical landscapes. If you do not have a rafting reservation, you can visit a family farm where you can enjoy experiences with coffee, coca leaves, chocolate, and much more.

Day 2: Santa Maria - Santa Teresa

  • 1 stop
  • Meals: breakfast, lunch, snacks
  • Accommodation: Monte Villa Hotel

Santa Teresa

  • 8h
After breakfast at the lodge, we will start our day with a relaxed hike through green jungle trails and quiet mountain paths. As we walk, we will pass tall trees, rivers, small farms, and lots of beautiful scenery. It is a great way to enjoy nature and the tranquility of the surroundings. There are some parts of the hike that are uphill, but the breathtaking views that come with it are well worth it. We will then stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing our hike to the village of Santa Teresa. In the afternoon, we will head to the relaxing hot springs of Cocalmayo, surrounded by the nature of the Vilcanota River. This is a great place to relax after two days of adventure (to enter this place, you can pay directly at the ticket office). After this option, we will rest in Santa Teresa for the night.

Day 3: Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes (Zipline optional)

  • 1 stop
  • Meals: breakfast, lunch, snacks
  • Accommodation: Paititi hotel

Aguas Calientes

  • 7h
After breakfast at the lodge, we will head to the zipline site, a short distance from our accommodation. This is one of the highest and most exciting ziplines in South America. The activity includes three zip lines and a suspension bridge, covering a total of about 3 kilometers: The first line is 450 meters long. The second line is even longer, at 600 meters. Then you will cross a 120-meter-long suspension bridge, with spectacular views of the river and the jungle. Finally, the last and longest zip line is 950 meters long: an exciting way to finish! Only if you book this activity will we take a short drive to Hidroeléctrica, where we will begin the final leg of our journey on foot. If you do not take this option, we will follow a well-known trail along the train tracks and the Urubamba River, walking about 14 km (8.7 miles) to reach Aguas Calientes, the small town at the base of Machu Picchu.

Day 4: Machu Picchu - Back Cusco

  • 1 stop
  • Meals: breakfast
  • Accommodation: Not included

Machu Picchu

  • 1d
We will get up early, enjoy our last breakfast, and set off on our hike to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Alternatively, you can take the bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, if you prefer. Your guide will show you around for about 2 to 3 hours (you will need to provide details of your entrance ticket, such as the time and circuit, one day in advance so that the guided tour can be scheduled). After the tour, you will have free time to walk around, take photos, or simply enjoy the incredible views. The time you spend in Machu Picchu will depend on your choice of transportation back to Cusco (train or bus, according to your reservation).
