What you can expect

  • Kasuga Grand Shrine, established in the 8th century, stands as a testament to Japanese architectural ingenuity and Shinto reverence. The shrine is renowned for its numerous vermilion-lacquered buildings that harmoniously blend with the surrounding lush greenery of Kasuga Primeval Forest.

Central to its splendor are the hundreds stone lanterns that line the paths leading to the shrine's precincts. These lanterns, donated by worshippers over centuries, create an enchanting atmosphere, particularly when lit during festivals.

As you explore Kasuga Grand Shrine, marvel at its intricate architectural details and the deep spiritual symbolism embedded in every element of its design. The shrine remains a vibrant center of Shinto worship, where rituals and traditions continue to be observed with reverence.

Adjacent to the shrine is Kasuga Primeval Forest, a sacred grove where ancient trees and moss-covered stone lanterns add to the mystical ambiance. Visitors can stroll through this serene forest, often encountering Sika deer, regarded as messengers of the Shinto gods, which further enriches the spiritual experience.
